FOSTER families were the first to try out the newly refurbished ice rink at Billingham Forum.
Stockton Borough Council arranged the event at the newly refurbished venue to show its appreciation for its foster carers.
The facility has undergone £18.5m of work to improve facilities and will open next Friday, June 3, for three days of celebration and taster sessions, ahead of normal opening hours resuming on Monday, June 6.
Councillor Ann McCoy, the council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “It was wonderful to be able to do something to thank our region’s foster carers for all of the help and support they have provided to the children in past years.
“Fostering involves the whole family so it was important that the foster carers’ birth children were able to enjoy the day as well.”
In the Borough of Stockton, which includes Billingham and Wolviston, around 300 children and young people are being looked after by the council.
But with more children going into care, more foster carers and adoptive parents are needed in order to meet the needs of these children.
