DIVING group members are encouraging newcomers to get involved and enjoy two free taster days.

Hartlepool Diving Club, based at Hartlepool Marina, have organised their annual event to give people of any age and any ability the opportunity to experience diving.

The taster sessions will take place at Brierton pool, in Brierton Lane, on Saturday, February 12, from 2pm to 4pm and again on Sunday, February 13, from 1pm to 3pm,

Malcolm Logan, long-time member and club diving officer, said members of the group enjoy some fantastic experiences, and they all started out in their local pool.

Malcolm, 62, who lives in Thornaby, said: “It is a great club to be part of and these taster days just give people a small experience of what diving is all about.

“The great thing about diving is everyone is on an equal playing field, and every one of our members started out by diving in a swimming pool.

“I would urge people to come and have a go.

“Even if they never come again they will have a great day, it is good to say you have give it a go and it is absolutely free.”

The club, which has around 60 members aged from 15 to 70, enjoy diving trips all around the UK and are even planning for a trip to Malta in the coming months.

Malcolm, who is married to Lynne, 60, and is a father of two, added: “I really do enjoy my diving and the amount of life you get to see underwater is absolutely fascinating.

“The marina is a great place for us to be based, I always say it is just a massive aquarium.”

Hartlepool Diving Club meet every Thursday and Sunday from 8pm to 11pm.

Anyone interested in joining the club can attend the sessions.
