A NATIONAL dog charity and the local council have joined forces to bring free health checks for pets to Hartlepool.
Hartlepool Borough Council and the PDSA are working together to bring a week of free check ups for dogs to a number of locations across the town, beginning on Monday, October 15.
Each check will be carried out by a certified PDSA veterinary nurse and will assess the animal’s body condition, weight, teeth, gums, eyes, ears and coat, as well as a look at their general fitness.
Kate Ainger, the council’s environmental projects officer, said: “We are pleased to again be working in partnership with the PDSA as part of our on-going drive to promote responsible dog ownership.”
This move follows an earlier project from the PDSA that took place in May this year, and Kate added: “The initiative that took place earlier in the year proved really popular and we would urge owners to take advantage of this latest free offer.
Dog owners can make use of the free services at a number of locations across the week. Each day runs from 10am-5pm. The dates and locations are:
l October 15 – Rift House Recreation Ground, Kingsley Avenue;
l October 16 – Seaton Carew Coach Park;
l October 17 – Thornhill Allotments, Thornhill Gardens;
l October 18 – Summerhill Country Park;
l October 19 – King George V Playing Fields, in the car park.
