ORGANISERS of an annual carnival have set the ball rolling for their 90th year of celebrations by putting tickets on sale for a launch night.
The Hartlepool Carnival Committee is hosting ‘A Big Night Out’ at the Borough Hall, on the Headland, on Friday, July 25.
The event will feature highly-rated band The Fontains, and will also feature the Miss Carnival 2014 beauty pageant.
The night will kick off two weeks of festivities on the Headland, which will draw to a close on Saturday, August 9, when hundreds line the streets for the annual parade.
There has already been plenty of interest in tickets for the Big Night Out, which are priced at £10 and include a buffet and a disco.
They can be purchased from the Co-op, on Northgate, or from Hartlepool Tourist Information centre, in Church Square.
A Hartlepool Carnival spokesman said: “We’re in our 90th year now, and we’re really hopeful this year’s events will be a huge success.
“The night at the Borough Hall promises to be fantastic, the Miss Carnival event is always popular and we’re delighted that The Fontains have signed up to perform for the crowd.”
The committee are holding regular meetings in the run up to the festivities to ensure that everything goes smoothly, though they would love to hear from anyone who can help out as a volunteer at any of the events.
The spokesman added: “We’re still looking for people to come forward and help us out.
“There are loads of jobs that people can take on, things like working in the Town Square on Carnival Day and being on hand to help people.”
The Carnival Quiz competition is also up and running, with rounds taking places at each of the Headland’s seven pubs before the final at the Headland Club on July 30.
