TWO teddy-bear themed events have raked in over £1,000 for worthwhile town causes.
A Teddy-Bear Get-Together, organised by Hartlepool Borough Council Chairman, Coun Stephen Akers-Belcher, was held in the foyer of Asda, in Marina Way, Hartlepool.
The councillor was there with his fluffy mascot Chair Bear to sell special charity badges.
And then later that day, a Teddy Bear’s Picnic was held in the Waverley Terrace Community Garden where more badges were snapped up.
Both events were organised by Coun Akers-Belcher with the cash raised being donated to seven local charities he has chosen to support during his year in office.
He said: “We managed to raise over £1,000 which is just brilliant. I’d like to thank everyone who bought a badge or participated in the tombola. The money will go to excellent local causes.”
The charities are The Belle Vue Youth project, Central Correctors, Hartlepool Young Carers, NYPD (Nurturing Young People’s Development), The Phoenix Funsters, The Rifty Youth Project and the Wharton Annexe.
