Kind-hearted members of a Hartlepool community have raised more than £1,600 The Hartlepool family which has been devastated by a tragic car smash in France.

The youngest child of Mr Crompton and his partner Makayla Lund, two-year-old Kyle, was left seriously injured following the smash.

The Mail reported last month that Makayla, 25, who is said to have suffered internal injuries and numerous broken bones, had taken her first small steps.

The Hartlepool community has rallied around the family since the attack and a fund has been set up to help them.

It has now been boosted by £1,600 following a charity night at Owton Manor Social Club in the town.

“When a tragedy like this happens, the Owton Manor people really come to the fore and that’s what they have done.”

Co-director of the club Paul Wanley today paid tribute to all of those who helped raise the sum, which has now been passed on to the family.

“When a tragedy like this happens, the Owton Manor people really come to the fore and that’s what they have done here,” said Paul.

“I think all of us who have children think how it would be if it was us that this horrible accident had happened to.

“We just hope it will help the family in any way it can.”

The charity night saw performances by Freddie Mercury tribute act Billy West and singer Sean Mack.

Raffles and auctions also took place to gather more cash in for the fund.

“It was a brilliant night with between 150 and 170 turning out,” added Paul.

“We had so many prizes up for grabs that we haven’t even managed to give them all away yet.

“It went on until the early hours of the morning and I’m sure everybody there really enjoyed the craic.

“I want to think everyone who came and the local businesses around here who donated prizes that they did.

“A special mention has to go to club member Paul Cowan who went around and asked for all of the prizes. But I don’t think one business said they wouldn’t help.

“What they’ve done is fantastic and I’m sure the family appreciate it.”
