A fundraising page has been set up to help the family of a Hartlepool youngster fighting for his life in hospital.

By Sunday afternoon, the effort had so far raised £1,895 for the family of a two-year-old boy, named locally as Jacob, who is currently being cared for at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where his parents Abigail Wilson and David Jenkins are at his bedside.

The fundraising page was set up by Ben Picken, who describes himself as a family friend.

It says: “This is Gofundme page setup for baby Jacob and his family who are going through unimaginable times every minute of everyday. While baby Jacob is fighting for his life his family will be at his bedside vigil 24/7.

“Any donation will help them not have to worry bout domestic bills. However big or small your Donations/Comment will comfort them in this horrific time.”

Jacob was rushed to hospital from the town’s Pizza Hut on Friday after it is believed he choked on some food.
