A SCHOOL garden project is set to flourish after a fundraising event collected hundreds of pounds.

Greatham Primary School’s Eco Club organised the successful event that featured stalls, singing and skipping.

It raised an impressive total of £636 towards the school’s garden project which sees youngsters from across the school roll up their sleeves and dig in with planting and other green-fingered activities.

The fundraising event was held by the Eco Club after school on Thursday.

Stalls were set up to sell plants and crafts made by the pupils.

And Greatham Primary’s talented choir entertained parents in an outdoor concert.

And one class put on a fantastic skipping display.

Tesco supermarket in Hartlepool generously supported a tombola by donating a large amount of goods.

And parents added to it by baking delicious cakes and digging out unwanted bric-a-brac.

Eco club co-ordinator Tara Sotheran was delighted with the money raised.

She said: “It was a great success. We will be using the money for fencing for the garden and creating a gravel path and making bug hotels for insects to live.

“We would also like to buy a bench, possibly some garden ornaments in keeping with our sensory garden and some more plants and turf.

“As the seasons change we will need different things so the money will really help with that.

“We were fortunate to have really nice weather which just added to the occasion.

“The children sang outside and others put on a skipping display.”
