TEENAGE stage sensation Georgia Lennon has been hailed as “an exceptional talent” after being nominated for a Best of Hartlepool award.

The 15-year-old is in the running for the Performer of the Year category and delighted mum Nicola Lennon, 45, said: “It is lovely news.”

There is lots going on but she has a perfect attendance at school. She has never missed a day.

But the people who nominated her – at the English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College which Georgia attends – believe it is just reward for her sheer hard work and dedication.

Her nomination read: “Academically, Georgia is an outstanding student who achieves consistently excellent results, which are a testament to her hard work and thorough approach to studying.

“She is also willing to give of her time to assist in younger students’ musical development, and has played a key role in the mentoring of EMS Youth Voices.

“Georgia is incredibly dedicated to a career in music, her ambition is to continue with her music studies at A-level and then pursue vocal studies at The Royal College of Music.”

Nicola, a civil servant, who is married to project manager Mike, 50, said performing in stage shows was Georgia’s “absolute dream.”

Georgia has a part in the Durham Gala Theatre production of Phantom of the Opera and holds a position in The Sage Gateshead’s Quay Voices.

She holds a Diploma in Music Theatre Performance (DipLCM), ABRSM Grade 6 Classical Voice and ABRSM Grade 5 Piano, as well as Grade 5 theory.

Last year, she played a leading role in Cinderella, which was the pantomime staged by the Elwick Academy of Dance.

Mum added: “There is lots going on but she has a perfect attendance at school. She has never missed a day.”

Georgia will leave school to join sixth form later this year and do A-levels. Her eventual aim is to go to a performing arts or music school.

She becomes the latest entrant in a tough competition so far this year, but we want to hear from many more worthy causes.

We needs lots of entries and people have plenty of time to put their community heroes forward before the deadline of April 10.
