An academy student has returned from a prestigious national competition with honours.

Georgia Lennon won the Rosalyn Wicks £100 bursary award for the most vocal potential at the Miss Dance of Great Britain and Dance Master UK contest.

It was held in Blackpool last weekend and both 19-year-old Emily Pettite and 16-year-old Georgia qualified. Both are students at the Elwick Academy of Dance and Northern Arts Academy, in Hartlepool.

Leanne Jeffries who runs the set-up said: “Both Emily and Georgia performed beautifully. We’re all so proud of them. They were up against some tough competition as the standard was incredible. We were thrilled to hear that Georgia had been selected to receive this award.”

Georgia’s mum Nicola Lennon thanked her dance teachers, everyone who came to support and the “many kind words and messages from other competitors, teachers and friends.”

Georgia paid tribute to both Leanne and fellow academy boss Geoff Lucas for being “very supportive and I was proud to be able to represent them in the final. Winning the vocal award was such an honour and I was over the moon to receive it.”
