YOUNG skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX riders are being invited to put their skills to the test in some exciting competitions to celebrate the first birthday of a popular attraction.
It is a year since the Rozzy Plaza skate park opened its doors next to Rossmere Youth Centre in Rossmere Way, Hartlepool, and the young people who use the skate park have organised the events to mark the anniversary in style.
There are categories for inline skates, skateboards and BMX and the competitions are open to young people aged eight to 19 from around the region.
The competition days, all of which are from 1pm to 7pm, are:
● Saturday, August 11, skateboarding;
● Saturday, August 18, BMX;
● Saturday, August25, inline skating.
There will be music, prizes and refreshments and entry costs just £2 per person.
Rozzy Plaza was set up by Hartlepool Borough Council to provide a managed site where young people can develop their skateboarding, BMX and inline skating skills in a safe environment.
Peter Robinson, Rozzy Plaza development officer, said: “The Rozzy Plaza has gone from strength to strength in the year since it opened and is a really popular and safe venue for skateboarders, BMX riders and inline skaters from Hartlepool and further afield.
“The young people involved with the project have put a lot of work into developing the park and they should be very proud of what they have achieved.
“The three days of competitions are an excellent way of celebrating a great first year and introducing new people to all that the Rozzy Plaza has to offer.”
Anyone wanting to take part in the competitions must register in advance by completing a membership form – for more information or to register, contact Mr Robinson on (01429) 273741.
