EXCITEMENT is building ahead of a children’s event that could see thousands of people descend on a park.
Tickets are now available for a fun day in Hartlepool’s Ward Jackson Park that will feature the popular children’s TV character Mr Bloom.
Mr Bloom, played by Ben Faulks, will be bringing his Get Set, Grow roadshow to the town on Sunday, July 22.
It will be the main attraction as part of a partnership with the Friends of Ward Jackson Park group and the BBC.
Maria Harrison, from the greenspaces’s Place in the Park Cafe, said everyone is excited that the site is one of only five venues in the country that Mr Bloom will be visiting.
She said: “It’s a massive achievement for the park and the town.
“There were a few meetings and the BBC people all came up to see the park and to basically check it out.
“We had to keep things fairly quiet while it was all ongoing. It’s been very exciting and we are so pleased that it has come off.
“I’m delighted it is coming here. I think it’s the kind of thing we should be bringing to the park as it’ll be a great family day. It’s going to be an amazing event.
“We have had a lot of reaction to it and I think everyone wants to be part of it.”
The day will see five live shows held between 11am and 4pm, with an array of other activities taking place throughout the day.
The event has been organised with help from the popular CBeebies series Mr Bloom’s Nursery, and will see his team of young helpers, known as Tiddlers, tending to plants and vegetables in an allotment.
The aim of the show is to show how fun can be had in the garden.
People can apply for tickets by calling 0370 9011227.
Applications are limited to six tickets per household and there will be a random draw for tickets due to the popularity of the show.
