A SUPPORT group for grandparents in Hartlepool received an early Christmas boost thanks to kind supermarket staff.

The colleagues at the Sainsbury’s Middle Warren store haven’t bought gifts for each other this year, instead deciding to each buy a present and donate it to charity.

More than 50 gifts were brought into the store before they were handed over to representatives from Grandparents Together, a friendly support group for grandparents in the town.

The charity is run by Janet and Richard Rudd who launched a present appeal this year and were delighted to be supported by the supermarket.

And it wasn’t just the store’s members of staff who got involved.

The generous representatives and friends of popular Hartlepool charity Miles for Men also showed their support and donated gifts for the appeal.

Miles for Men is the Bishop Cuthbert store’s charity of the year this year and has been the beneficiary of a number of donations on the back of fundraising events and activities organised in store.

Tracie Bestford, PR ambassador at the store, in Mulberry Rise, said: “The idea to donate to Grandparents Together came from one of our colleagues, Vicky Docherty, who thought it would be a good ideal to help this charity.

“It’s a really lovely way to help out in our local community and show our support for a fantastic charity.

“We were delighted to be able to help Janet and Richard with their present appeal and will continue to follow the progress of their excellent work.”
