A CARE home has struck gold by being presented with a prestigious national award for excellent care.

Charlotte Grange Residential Care Home, in Flaxton Street, Hartlepool, has been awarded the Gold Standard Framework Award for providing excellent end of life care.

The accolade is a national award which aims to help establish a recognisable standard of care in care homes throughout the UK.

The home, which cares for 46 residents, spent two years completing a portfolio to show that they were meeting the 20 standards required for the award.

Margaret Spence, manager of the home, said: “We are delighted to have been given this prestigious award.

“It shows that we implement the necessary gold level standards, something which provides great satisfaction to residents and their family members.

“Our success is ultimately down to the staff at Charlotte Grange. We couldn’t have achieved this without all their hard work.”

Care homes accredited with the award must also consistently show a reduction in inappropriate hospital admissions and deaths in hospital, and a considerable rise in the number of patients dying in the preferred place of their care home.

Margaret said: “Our residents don’t have to leave Charlotte Grange and be sent to hospital. They can be treated in the comfort of their own home.”
