A CHARITY golf day held by the Vela Group has raised more than £10,000 for three good causes.

The Vela Group, which incorporates Tristar Homes and Housing Hartlepool, has built on the success of the charity initiative with its third annual golf day raising even more money than last year.

The event, held at Wynyard Golf Club, attracted 26 teams from across the region making thousands of pounds for three Teesside charities including Butterwick Hospice, Hartlepool & District Hospice and autism charity Daisy Chain.

Vela Group chairman, Mike Clark said: “Thanks to the generosity of local firms, we have raised much needed funds for very worthwhile causes that are making an important contribution to their local communities.”

Both hospices were named as Vela’s charities of the year in May 2013.

Carol Sennett, corporate fundraiser at Hartlepool & District Hospice, said: “We are delighted with the success of this event and would like to extend our sincere thanks to the team at Vela and everyone else involved in the day.Support of this kind is crucial to our organisation and the money raised will be used to fund the specialist care services we provide to patients and their families throughout the communities of Hartlepool and East Durham.”
