A GOLF club swung into action to help their local hospice and raise £400.

High Throston Golf Club seniors section in Hartlepool held an annual charity day to support Hartlepool & District Hospice.

Members took part in a tournament and putting competition and added to the total with a raffle, auction of golf equipment and donations from family members.

It is the second year in a row the senior section, for players over 60, have chosen to support the work of the hospice, in Wells Avenue.

Brian Coates, chairman of the seniors section, said: “When I asked members which charity to support the overwhelming response was for the hospice.

“We were determined to beat the total of £330 that we raised last year.

“We were over the moon with the amount raised this year and the hospice was very grateful.”

Members presented the money to the hospice’s community fundraiser Janice Forbes.

She said: “A huge thanks to the senior members of High Throston Golf Club for raising £400 for our hospice.

“It is these type of events in the local community that are vital for us to continue to provide the care services to local people.”

Previous good causes the seniors section have supported include Help For Heroes, the Great North Air Ambulance and British Heart Foundation.
