A VOLUNTEER centre is teaming up with a hospice to raise awareness of work available for charity.
The Volunteer Centre, Hartlepool Voluntary Development Agency, is encouraging interested people to get along to the Grand Hotel in Swainson Street, on Thursday for a three-hour event explaining more about the posts available in town.
Volunteer Centre co-ordinator Julie Laking said: “We are privileged in meeting many fantastic and enthusiastic people who have chosen for many different reasons to volunteer.
“This enthusiasm and commitment is often generated from a strong desire to help, and people choose to offer that help free from any pressure or obligation.”
Thursday’s event will see HVDA and Hartlepool & District Hospice staff working together to highlight volunteer opportunities available.
Julie added: “The idea for the Volunteer Centre and Hartlepool & District Hospice to work in partnership to host an event was to enable potential volunteers to have the best possible experience of voluntary work.
“Hartlepool & District Hospice is one of the largest voluntary organisations in the town and it is a pleasure to be able to join forces to support the valued work of the volunteer army that is so crucial to the services delivered by the Hospice.”
The hospice can offer volunteer opportunities including befriending, administration, laundry work, health care, retail and fundraising.
The awareness event lasts from 10am to 1pm.
Staff from both the Volunteer Centre and Hartlepool & District Hospice will be on hand to register people’s interest in volunteering, and to give information, advice and guidance.
