A CHARITY is urging runners to help them boost its funds by taking part in a popular half marathon.
The Children’s Society has secured some places for the Great North Run, which takes place between Newcastle and South Shields on Sunday, September 16.
The charity, which raises vital funds for vulnerable children and young people, has a team competing in the annual race and is keen to sign up more runners.
Chief executive Matthew Reed said: “I would like to encourage readers to get their running shoes on and sign up for the Great North Run
“You don’t have to be an Olympic athlete to be champion.
“By running for The Children’s Society you can champion the voices of children.
“We have a network of projects across England, which help tens of thousands of children every year. And your involvement would directly support this work.”
