PEOPLE are being urged to dig in with their ideas of how they would like to see a community allotment develop.
Hartlepool’s Waverley Allotment Group would like local residents and groups to help plan the future of the successful site.
The allotment has been transformed in recent years through the efforts of a range of partners including Hartlepool College of Further Education, Hartlepool Borough Council, Hartlepool Mind, DISC, Incontrol-able, Pathways to Inclusion and neighbouring plot holders.
Recently, the council granted permission for the extension of the project, onto the adjacent unused land.
Plans to secure the land have been submitted for planning permission.
But the group is looking for creative ideas of how to best utilise the additional allotment land and involve local residents in the projects.
Proposals include beehives, orchard areas and starter plots for local people.
The results of this consultation will be used to inform a strategy, looking at the development and the future of the allotment site.
The strategy has been funded through the Big Lottery’s Awards for All programme and is being developed in partnership with Groundwork North East.
