PEOPLE of all cultural backgrounds are being invited to say “Gung Hay Fat Choy” or good fortune and happiness during Chinese New Year celebrations.
Hartlepool Chinese Association will mark the start of the Year of the Dragon with a party at the town’s Grand Hotel.
It will take place on Sunday, January 29, from noon until 4pm.
Chinese New Year lasts for 15 days and officially starts on Monday, January 23.
Chinese people see it as a time to welcome “longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative chi from the past”.
Sandra Chow, chairman of Hartlepool Chinese Association, said organisers hope this year’s party will top the success of last year’s event, which was held at the Lynnfield Centre, in Elcho Street.
Tickets for the event, at the Swainson Street-based hotel, are £5 for adults or £3 for children and available from Hartlepool Voluntary Development Agency (HVDA) on (01429) 262641.
