BRAVE fundraisers will be lining up to get waxed in memory of a popular town man who was killed in a car crash.
Peter Tighe, 26, died in August 2010 when the car he was a passenger in was involved in a head-on smash with a lorry on the A179.
Peter, from St Mary’s Court on Hartlepool’s Headland, was a huge fan of the annual carnival near his home and a fundraising night will take place in his memory at The Cosmopolitan pub on Friday, August 8.
Jane Fleming, who runs the pub with husband Tim, said: “Peter was a popular lad and he loved the carnival, so every year on the night before the Parade Day we do a night to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance.
“All his mates come, and we have volunteers to get parts of their body waxed to raise money.
“It’s always a fun night, and we’re all looking forward to it. I’m not sure some of the lads who are getting waxed will be though!”
Jane has kindly volunteered her husband to have his chest waxed on the night and says there is still time for others to join him.
The popular pub is always a hive of activity during Carnival fortnight, and Jane and Tim have arranged plenty of events to keep people entertained this year.
Jane, who has been in charge at the pub for 12 years, added: “We have a poker tournament taking place on Sunday, August 3, and the following Sunday on the final day we have a karaoke and pool competition.
“In between those we have a quiz night on the Thursday with a £500 prize.
“This is our busiest time of the year, the people over here live for the Carnival and the atmosphere is always brilliant.
“It’s great to be involved, and we spend a few weeks planning the events and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone.
“People really enjoy themselves, the staff get fancy dress outfits on and we just all have a great time.”
