RESIDENTS are invited to get involved in a sport that was an exciting feature of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A handball course organised by Hartlepool Borough Council’s sport and physical activity team, will begin at Brierton Sports Centre on Thursday, September 13, and continue through to Thursday, November 1.
People aged 14-25 are a key target for involvement through an initiative known as Sportivate, which aims to encourage members of this age group to increase their involvement in sport and physical activity – but people of other ages are welcome to take part too.
The weekly sessions will be held from 5pm-6pm and the eight-week course costs £15. People aged 14-25 will receive a £5 discount when booking
Sport and physical activity officer Rachael Pringle said: “It is all about trying to ensure a positive legacy for Hartlepool from the Olympic Games. Handball matches at London 2012 proved particularly popular and we want to capitalise on this to try and get more local people active.
“If you haven’t played handball before or have been inspired by London 2012 and would like to try this fun sport, then these sessions are for you.”
