SPORTING heroes are a month away from receiving honours – and they will do it at a new venue.

The Hartlepool Mail Sports Awards will now be held in a new location after first being planned for the Borough Hall in town.

They have now been switched to the Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield, which is the same place where the Mail’s hugely successful Best of Health awards were held earlier this year.

The spectacular Hardwick Hall Hotel proved to be a great setting for our health awards and we’re sure the town’s sporting greats will enjoy a great night.

In the meantime, we are continuing the search for more entries for our inaugural awards.

So far, we have had nominations from sports including football, rugby, boxing, cricket and sailing.

Perhaps you know of a deserving cause from another sporting field.

Why not nominate them and give them the recognition they deserve?

All it takes is for you to fill in the nomination form on this page, or complete an easy form online at the Hartlepool Mail website.

We have featured some of the excellent and deserving causes so far and they are only an example of the standard of entries we have already received.

But we want more and there is still time to add to an already great list.

You have until September 13 to put forward their favourites, whether it’s grass roots stars to those excelling at an international level.

There are 13 categories in this year’s competition and they are as follows:

Team of the Year

Sportsperson Special Achievement Award

Disabled Sports Person

Disabled Team of the Year

Contribution to Disability Sports Award

Sports Official/Referee Award

Coach of the Year Award

Unsung Hero Award or Volunteer/Young Leader Award

Club of the Year Award
