A SERVICE for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is giving out advice on ‘coming out’.
Hart Gables, in York Road, Hartlepool, has put together an online audio blog to coincide with International Coming Out Day today.
And anyone who would like any advice on revealing that they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered can go along to the centre to pick up a copy of the podcast.
Sarah Lewis, a hate crime worker for Hart Gables, said: “We wanted to do this as part of International Coming Out Day.
“We have put together a podcast of a group of individuals from the service who spoke about their experiences and the hardship of coming out and telling family and friends and partners.
“There are some positive experiences and some negative, but we thought it was a good way of supporting people through a big step in their lives.
“Sometimes parents don’t understand and see it as a taboo subject. They find it difficult to accept, and will have questions about marriage and children.”
She added: “We thought we would launch it as part of International Coming Out Day to get the maximum impact and, hopefully, help as many people as we can.”
Anyone who would like a podcast copy can pop along to Hart Gables at 220 York Road, open Monday to Friday from 9.30am.
