Boxing Day turned into a washout for both Hartlepool United and Middlesbrough fans today as their games were postponed due to waterlogging.
Pools'were due to take on Notts County in a League Two game at Victoria Park, while Boro were due to travel to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
Concerned at the amount of rain which had fallen, Pools asked the match referee to carry out a 9am pitch inspection this morning.
The result was the postponement of the game. It means Pools will be inactive until next Saturday, when they travel to Newport County.
Their Bank Holiday Monday game at Carlisle has already been postponed, due to flooding at Brunton Park.
Middlesbrough's game at Blackburn was called off at 10.30am, with Lancashire one of the areas of the country worst-affected by heavy rain.
Sunderland's game at Manchester City and Newcastle United's home game v Everton were expected to go ahead.
Most of the region's non-league fixtures also fell victim to the weather, with the Northern League Division One game between Durham City and Consett (noon KO @ Consett) the only survivor, due to the 3G pitch.
