A squad of young army cadets have had their hard work rewarded at a special awards ceremony in Hartlepool.

Members of the ‘Tunny Rifles’ High Tunstall Detachment received certificates for the efforts over recent months at the team’s annual inspection and presentation night.

A total of 15 cadets aged from 13 to 18 received Army Proficiency Certificates, with two also picking up their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Awards.

Detachment Commander Terry Shaw said: “The cadets from the detachment have had a hard year with public events, training and sporting events.”

Cdt Courtney Goodacre, 16, of Hartlepool, said: “Gaining my Bronze Award has been hard work, but I am looking forward to now going on work towards my Silver.” Award.”

The High Tunstall Detachment of the Cleveland Army Cadet Force parades at High Tunstall College of Science in Hartlepool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.45-9pm.
