A HARTLEPOOL man is celebrating after it was confirmed he has had his 40th book deposited at the British Library.

Bob Colvin, cartoonist and author, has written dozens of books as well as producing cartoon strips, including Joe Maginty and the Maginty Clan.

The 58-year-old, who lives in the Burn Valley area of town, does all his own drawings and characters for his books and novels with the help of a two-pence piece.

And he has spoken of his delight after it was confirmed his 40th book, Joe Maginty: The Rocket in Your Pocket, has been deposited by the British Library.

A copy of all books printed and published in England are sent to the British Library and officials there have written to Mr Colvin to confirm that his latest effort, his 40th book, is now inside the library.

Proud Mr Colvin said: “It is quite an achievement really and I feel very proud.

“I have been doing this for more than 22 years now and it is great to get the recognition from the British Library.

“I spend between five and six weeks on each book and do all my own illustrations.”

Mr Colvin said his favourite character is Joe Maginty, adding: “He is a very strong character and appeals to children a lot.”
