AN APPEAL to help support the future for an historic Hartlepool site is going great guns.

Firms across Hartlepool and beyond have now signed up to sponsor pieces of equipment at the Heugh Gun Battery on the Headland.

Delighted Wally Stewart, a volunteer at the battery, said: “A good number of the larger items are now being sponsored by various companies round the town and even further afield.

“For instance, all the military radio equipment is now under aegis of the Stockton Amateur Radio Group.”

The Battery is also planning a cider festival which will be held on Sunday, June 13.

Wally said: “Classic ciders from various parts of the country will be on sale and so we would like to see as many cider connoisseurs as possible. There will also be live bands playing on the day.”

A book sale is also being planed on Sunday, May 2, and Wally added: “It will be held from 10am to 4pm, in the reception area.

“A number of very good books have come into our possession.”

The proceeds will be put into the battery fund and go towards much-needed equipment.
