A Hartlepool charity has praised a town business boss after he gave his backing to their cause.

Joel Kerr, of Joel D Kerr Funeral Services which is based in York Road, has given a donation of £1,500 to Miles for Men.

The charity is delighted at Joel’s donation. It is great to have the backing of local buisnesses. It shows people are taking notice of the hard work the team puts in to the charity.

And as he handed the money over, Mr Kerr described how he was “delighted to be a supporter of the charity” and all that it does.

He praised the hard work of Miles for Men officials towards helping young children and families across the North East.

Mr Kerr described the cause as “truly amazing” and said he was only too happy to give his support.

Miles for Men started in April 2012 when its founder Michael Day decided to launch a fundraising project in tribute to his late father, Michael Day Senior who sadly lost his battle with throat cancer in 2007 aged 67.

Michael wanted to do something in memory of his father and suggested a sponsored run for men.

The first was held in August 2012 and has been an annual Hartlepool attraction ever since.

Miles for Men official Kevin Hill said: “The charity is delighted at Joel’s donation. It is great to have the backing of local buisnesses.

“It shows people are taking notice of the hard work the team puts in to the charity.”

But Kevin was keen to praise others and said much of the success was down to “fellow volunteers who are always behind the charity 100%.”

Michael Day told of his delight to have Mr Kerr on board and thanked him for his donation which will help towards this years 5km fun run which this year is supporting Hartlepool & District Hospice.

This year’s 5k event will be held on Sunday, July 31 and has again been lined up to start and finish at The Domes in Seaton Carew.

Entries are already being taken for the run. The fee is £10 for adults, £7.50 for six-to-17-year-olds and £5 for the under fives.

People can enter by visiting the Miles for Men website at http://www.milesformen.co.uk/ where they will be directed to the entry form.
