An 11-year-old girl who was knocked down with two of her friends when a car mounted the kerb in Hartlepool is still in a serious condition, police have confirmed.
The schoolgirl was airlifted to hospital with what police describe as ‘serious head injuries’ following the incident in Skelton Street on Monday afternoon.
Another girl, aged 12, suffered a broken leg, while a third girl, also aged 12, sustained minor injuries , when a Ford Focus mounted the kerb at about 3.45pm.
Cleveland Police earlier confirmed the 46-year-old man arrested in connection with the serious collision has been questioned and released from custody with no bail conditions.
Emergency services were called to the street after the three girls were struck while it is thought they were walking home from school.
A police spokesman said earlier: "Inquiries into the collision are on-going and the 11-year-old girl who sustained serious head injuries remains in James Cook University Hospital in a poorly condition."
