HART Parish Council has moved to warn people that a meeting about the siting of a new gypsy site near the village will not be open to the public.
The council is set to meet tonight to discuss Hartlepool Borough Council’s decision to put a gypsy and traveller site near residents’ home.
But it will not be open to the public, despite someone putting a message on the social media site Facebook inviting people to attend.
A statement released by Hart Parish Council said: “It has come to our attention that a statement in a social website has advertised a public meeting to regarding the proposed sites for gypsies and travellers.
“Hart Parish Council has not generated this Facebook message and considers it to be irresponsible and misguided.
Suitable accommodation is not instantly available for the numbers such a meeting is expected to generate.
“There cannot be a public meeting until the parish council has had sufficient opportunity to review the evidence, collect the facts and invite the relevant officers from HBC.
“Research into the recent announcement by Hartlepool Borough Council is ongoing and if it is felt that a meeting is necessary then a notice of this will be given.”
