THE popular Marina 5 race has attracted a record turn out this year - with all of the places snapped up three weeks in advance.
The five mile race, organised by Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers, had a previous record turn out of 380 runners.
But this year the club are having to turn away entries after all of the 500 places were taken.
“We are absolutely jam-packed,” said the club’s chair Jane Wistow.
“Our previous record was 380 runners and that was on the day the Thirsk 10 mile race was cancelled so a lot of those runners came to run our race instead.
“But to have all of the places taken three weeks in advance is fantastic.”
Jane put the record entry down to the fact the race had an online entry system in place for the first time and the “brilliant” marketing work of Sarah Black, from the club. The reputable flat and fast course will also appeal to runners chasing fast times for the distance.
This year’s race will be held on Sunday, March 30 with the starting gun going off at 10.30am.
Jane said entries that were sent before Saturday, March 8 have been accepted but any sent on or after that date will regrettably have to be rejected.
The prize money for breaking the male and female course record this year has increased from £75 to £100 thanks to the support of town firm, F Peart & Co.
