Friendly optometrist Cian Murphy could be a step away from becoming an award winner - after just six weeks of full-time work in Hartlepool.
Cian, who works at Specsavers in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, was today praised for the calm manner in which he explains every aspect of treatment to customers.

It prompted one Hartlepool Mail reader to nominate him for a Hartlepool Best of Health award. They said: “He is very friendly and put me at ease. He explained every process to me which has never been done before.”
Cian has only recently becoming a full-time member of staff when previously he worked on Sundays.
He said: “It is a bit of a shock to be nominated and you don’t expect it, but it is nice that people appreciate the work that you do on a daily basis.”
Cian joins a strong list of nominated contenders for this year’s awards - backed by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, the Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees Clinical Commissioning Group, the Cleveland Fire Support Network and Seneca Homes.
The deadline for entries has now passed and the judges will soon meet to draw up a shortlist for the categories of GP of the Year; GP Practice of the Year; Nurse of the Year; Team of the Year;
Optometrist of the Year; Pharmacist of the Year; Carer of the Year; Midwife of the Year; Receptionist of the Year; Long Term Achievement; and Health Care Apprentice/Student.
Once they have narrowed down the field, the winners will be announced at a grand finals night, to be held at the Hardwick Hall Hotel on Thursday, June 18.
