Walking in Hartlepool is being stepped up in a new programme of guided events.

Campaigners have stepped up their bid to encourage fitness in Hartlepool by launching a new series of guided walks.

A three-month programme of events has been revealed in a scheme called Walk About In Hartlepool.

And a leaflet explaining more is now available, covering rambles which are planned from now to March.

They cater for all abilities of walkers, from 30-minute beginner sessions through to 90-minute intermediate walks.

They are free, local, and will help people to get active and stay active at a pace that’s right for them. The walks are lead by qualified volunteer walk leaders.

The project has received accreditation through The Ramblers organisation which is holding a Walking for Health programme in conjunction with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Organisers would also love to hear from people who would be interested in becoming a walk leader.

Walks on the way include:

* January 18 at 10am - from Hurworth Burn near the bridge on the Elwick to Trimdon Road;

* January 20 at 10am - from Wynyard Country Park Visitor Centre Car Park, Thorpe Thewles;

* January 20 at 1.30pm - Meet at the bus shelter, High Street, Greatham;

* January 21 at 1.30pm - from the Civic Centre in Hartlepool.
