Sports enthusiasts have the chance to get up close to one of the country’s greatest-ever boxing champions next month.

Nathan Greathead is bringing a former world champion boxer to Hartlepool when he stages An evening with Joe Calzaghe.

Calzaghe celebrates his points victory over USA's Roy Jones at Madison Square Garden in New Yor in 2008.

The Welshman, who retired in 2009 with an undefeated record and as a reigning world champion, will be at the Corporation Club on Friday, October 16.

Calzaghe is the fourth British world champ Nathan has brought to the town as a dinner event.

Both the visits of Frank Bruno and Ricky Hatton were sell-out events at the Whitby Street venue with the visit of Nigel Benn to the Staincliffe Hotel also well supported.

Calzaghe is rated as one of the best British boxers of all time and then lifted his profile and popularity further by appearing on the Strictly Come Dancing series on BBC.

Nathan said people will be able to get up close to Joe and get pictures and autographs from the former world champion boxer and TV personality.

He added: “I’ve been speaking to Joe on Twitter he can’t wait to come here for the first time ever.

“He is former undefeated world champion and Britain’s most successful boxer.

“It will be a great night and he is another world champion to come to Hartlepool and follow in the footsteps of other greats Ricky Hatton, Nigel Benn and Frank Bruno.”

The show is being held at the Corporation Club in Whitby Street, Hartlepool.

Tickets are £40 or £65 including hot/cold buffet and can be booked by calling Nathan on 07534055487 or through Nathan’s Facebook page.

Nathan added: “It’s a good feeling bringing and working with world champions and hopefully with the backing of all my sponsors , Ian Glass, my family , Peter hall (webuyanyhouse.com) and Camera Security we can continue to bring world champions here to Hartlepool.”

Nathan set up his business after being encouraged by his mum Denise Breward to put his love of boxing into good use.
