Hartlepool’s shopping centre evacuated after ‘suspicious package’ found

MIDDLETON Grange Shopping Centre was evacuated for two hours after a suspicious package was left outside a shop.

One area of the shopping centre was closed off after the suitcase was left near to Holland & Barrett.

And shortly afterwards management and police evacuated everyone from the shopping centre.

The package was discovered just before 1.30pm this afternoon.

Police and firefighters attended the shopping centre, which was re-opened at around 3.30pm.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a suspicious package in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, namely a suitcase left outside a shop.

“As a result emergency procedures were instigated.”
