The Galleries, in Middleton Grange, will be 25-years-old and a variety of party activities will be taking place throughout the day.

Taking centre stage will be Christine Monaghan who joined the team on opening day back in 1992 and is still going strong.

The cafe is using this birthday as an opportunity to thank its customers – some of whom have been visiting since it first opened – as well as raising money for Christine’s favourite charity, Butterwick Hospice.

Shoppers will be able to enjoy a tombola and raffle with the chance to win a wide selection of goodies, a range of fantastic offers such as free ice-cream with every child’s meal and a free re-fill with any hot drink purchased with a freshly cooked meal, as well as face painting for the younger members of the local community.

Manager Robert Hall said: “To reach this milestone is a great achievement for us, and I’m also absolutely thrilled to be able to congratulate Christine on 25 years as the longest serving employee.

“She has worked so hard since the beginning and has played a huge part in making The Galleries what it has become today.”

Christine initially started working full time, serving up dishes on the café’s food counter, but over the years this has now reduced to three days a week.

“I love working here and have met so many wonderful people, with some becoming close friends,” she said.

“The Galleries is not just a place to eat and drink, but somewhere people can come and relax with others while enjoying our delicious food - and of course our frothy coffees - which is what we’ve become known for in Hartlepool.”

Middleton Grange manager Mark Rycraft said The Galleries was an integral part of the centre: “It is a great achievement for a local business such as The Galleries to reach 25 years. The cafe has played a pivotal role within the centre as a venue for customers to have a break from their shopping trip.

“The fact it has remained a thriving business for more than two decades is testament to the fact it has excellent customer service and a strong product offering. They are constantly updating their menu with a wide range of drinks such as smoothies, frappes and speciality coffees as well as a mouth-watering selection of meals which keeps customers returning.

“We wish the team continued success and look forward to working with The Galleries for many more years to come.”
