The rugby and netball teams are both once again number one in the region after taking championship titles at the AoC Championships and will be heading off to the University of Nottingham for three days in April 2017 to take part in national finals.

Chris Hyndman, Elite Sport and Academy Manager at the college said the newly established basketball team also did well by coming third.

He said it has been an exciting time all round, including one of the sports scholarship students, Lewis Muldown, who trains with Hartlepool Wadokai club, taking two European gold medals and a bronze in karate.

Mr Hyndman said: “Lewis’s achievements over his 16 months at college have been outstanding and are a great source of pride for the college and obviously his club who have added many years of coaching to produce such a skilled athlete.”

“As an academy group this year has seen a strong start to the season for all sports, regional qualifiers are an important time of year for the group, it provides the opportunity to play against the very strongest from each college in one central venue, and obviously the prestige of representing the North East at national finals.”
