BIG-HEARTED slimmers shed more than 5,000 pounds in just six weeks and boosted the coffers of Hartlepool & District Hospice.
The dedicated members of St Bega’s, West View, Sacred Heart, High Tunstall, St James’, Seaton Carew and St Columba’s Slimming World groups lost the huge amount between them as part of the Slim for Good campaign.
And as well as feeling a lot better in themselves for losing the weight, the generous and motivated groups also raised £1,090 for the Wells Avenue-based hospice.
Nicola Moorhouse, team manager for Slimming World Hartlepool, said: “I am so proud of what our members have achieved during the six weeks.
“Choosing to support a worthwhile cause like the hospice gave everyone a special focus and real commitment to their weight loss goals.
“For many members, being sponsored has been a great way to kick start their weight loss and for others it has been a boost to help them stay on track.”
Janice Forbes, community fundraiser at the hospice, said: “I would like to say well done to all of the slimmers for their tremendous achievement in losing over 5,000lbs and raising funds for their local hospice.”
Francis McAllister, director of fundraising at the hospice, added: “The hospice is a local charity which cares for people from the communities of Hartlepool and East Durham who are living with life limiting illnesses.
“It is the support of local fundraisers like the Slimming World groups which make sure the hospice can continue to provide its vital range of specialist palliative care services.
“On behalf of all of the hospice staff, patients and their families, I would like to thank the groups for their hard work and commitment, the donation is a huge boost.”
Delighted Slimming World Hartlepool manager, Nicola, added: “At Slimming World we pride ourselves on the care and support we give to each other, we are known as the club with the big heart.
“So when members started talking about raising money for the hospice and what we could all achieve together, there was no stopping us.
“The members of the West View group also did a sponsored walk to boost the money.
“We are delighted to have been able to help the hospice and hope our donation makes a difference.”
