A HARTLEPOOL wedding photographer found himself right in the middle of the action when a best man’s wife gave birth outside the bridal venue.

Little baby Hutchinson upstaged the bride in the best possible way when she arrived into the world on Saturday – minutes before bride Amanda Vasey was due to show.

The baby couldn’t wait, and her mum, Amanda Hutchinson, ended up giving birth in a car outside the venue.

The whole commotion was caught on camera by Hartlepool wedding photographer Kane Young, of Kane Young Photography, who never thought he would be snapping a newborn in addition to the nuptials.

Kane, 39, from Hart Village, even drove the bride to hospital afterwards so she could meet the new arrival.

Former mechanical fitter Kane, who became a professional photographer two years ago after taking redundancy, said: “It’s definitely different.

“It brought a few more tears to the day.”

The drama unfolded around 10am on Saturday, at The King’s Head Mercure Hotel, on a busy main road in Darlington.

As well as holding the ceremony and reception there, the bridal party were also getting ready there and Kane was taking photographs of the preparations.

Best man Gareth Hutchinson had been nervous about making his speech, and even joked that he would pretend his wife’s waters had broken and that he would throw a cup of water on the floor, just to get out of it.

But it was no laughing matter when Amanda went into labour at the hotel.

She was ushered into a car so she could be dashed to hospital.

But it was too late – she was giving birth.

“Gareth burst into the bride’s room saying Amanda was about to give birth,” said Kane, who has a partner called Hannah Rutter, 28.

“There was a bit of a commotion and we rushed downstairs and a sheet had been thrown over the car to protect her modesty.

“A paramedic car pulled up and later an ambulance pulled up and she got straight into the ambulance.”

Gareth also rushed off to hospital, leaving the wedding without a best man.

But he returned in the evening and showed off photographs of his new daughter.

Later, the best man, along with groom Steven Vasey, went to see his wife and newborn at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Kane gave bride Amanda a lift and even photographed her running down the hospital corridor, capturing another magical memory from the day, as well as a picture of the two happy couples, the new baby and Gareth and Amanda’s 16-month-old son Alfie.
