Two members of staff have been celebrating clocking up 35 years long service.

Pauline Martin and her husband Gerald have been awarded their 35 years long service award at Mason & Gerald Martin funeral directors in Park Road Hartlepool. They took over from Stanley Mason 35 years ago.

There has been another cause for celebration as Pauline and colleague Heather Christal have raised more than £260 for the Hartlepool Poppy appeal.

Pauline handed over the cheque to Sian Cameron, who took over the role of Hartlepool poppy appeal fundraising coordinator five years ago, in memory of her father.

The business has also put up a dedicated remembrance tree on which members of the public can place a star in memory of their loved ones.

Julia Masshedar, funeral arranger, said: “We here at Mason and Gerald Martin love nothing more providing a support service for our community this includes fund raising, coffee mornings, memorial services, bus trips and days out for the bereaved.

Tomorrow, at 10.30am, there will be a Christmas Memorial Service in St Paul’s Church, Grange Road, where there will be a 12ft Memorial Christmas tree.

Members of the public are invited to come along and place a star upon the tree in memory of their loved ones.
