A STORE has renewed its appeal for schools across Hartlepool to take free high-visibility jackets from it.

Specsavers, in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, has taken delivery of the jackets.

Store director Ian Walker said the aim was to “help make the children’s’ walk to school safer.”

He added: “With the clocks going back and the dark nights upon us, it can become increasingly dangerous for our schoolchildren walking to and from school and going on school visits.

“I remember that, when I was a child, I was given reflective armbands along with my class mates to help keep them safe.”

He said the vests were available to local schools, clubs and walking buses, but so far no-one had come forward despite an appeal.
