A level results day was double success story for Hartlepool twins Emily and Olivia Ward who were overjoyed after achieving top grades.
The sisters, who go to English Martyrs Sixth Form College, arrived early to collect their eagerly anticipated A Level results, which would determine which university they would go to come September.
But the 18-year-old identical twins needn’t have worried, as they both achieved the high grades they had hoped for to secure their place at their first-choice universities.
Olivia received an A in biology, and A in maths and a B in chemistry. She will go on to Newcastle University to study medicine.
Emily achieved three A grades in law, history, and photography and a B in English Literature, meaning she will go on to study law at Bristol University.
The sisters from Elwick Road, said opening their results was ‘emotional’ for both of them.
Olivia said: “We are identical twins, but although we have both gone to the same college, we were in different classes. “We get on really well and we revised together in the run up to the exams, despite doing different subjects.
“I’m delighted with our results, as we worked really hard to pass so we could go to our chosen universities.”
Emily said she found the build up to the exams particularly tough, and admitted she broke down a few times when the pressure got too much,
Like her sister, she was delighted for them both and said results like theirs make it all worthwhile.
She added: “I am over the moon with our results as we have both worked so hard to get them.
“The run up to the exams was really tough and I had an emotional breakdown as I was so worried.
“So to come and get these results has been a really nice surprise.”
Olivia added: “We both just started crying when we opened them as we were so happy. “Our parents are really proud of us both and our friends have also done really well, so we are all delighted.”
