Hartlepool United’s H’Angus to feature on ITV’s I Never Knew That About Britain

HARTLEPOOL United mascot H’Angus will come under the national spotlight when he features on TV tonight.

H’Angus and the club will feature on ITV’s I Never Knew That About Britain at 8pm, as previously reported by the Mail.

The series looks at quirky British traditions, including the famous Hartlepool monkey-hanging legend.

The legend says the townspeople hung a monkey fearing it was a French spy during the Napoleonic wars.

As part of the show, presenter Paul Martin and a production crew visited Pools’ Victoria Park ground and spent time with H’Angus the monkey, who was created in homage to the legend.

He also spoke to town residents about how they came to be known as “monkey-hangers”.

Club officials say they hope that the programme will help explain more to people around the country why they have H’Angus as their mascot.
