A SHOPPING centre is about to kick-off the voting in its 2013 retail awards.

And staff at Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool, are hoping customers get involved to award the best shops and markets stalls in the complex.

Three thousand voting slips will be placed around the centre and in stores in the hope that shoppers will pick one up and take part.

Categories for the awards include:

l favourite store,

l favourite indoor market stall, favourite shop window display, best customer service experience,

l star store employee,

l star Middleton Grange employee.

Once the votes are in and the competition closes on September 18, a team of mystery shoppers will go around the stores before a panel of judges review voting slips and mystery shopper reports.

The category winner and one overall winner will receive a certificate, and the glory, in an awards ceremony in the centre’s management suite on October 29.

Last year’s overall winner was Specsavers opticians.

Suzanne Chaney, marketing manager for Middleton Grange, said: “We’ve got some great shops and great staff and we love them.

“We don’t shout about them enough though and that’s what thesea wards are all about..

“Essentially, these awards are about highlighting how great they are.

“There’s a lot of hard work that goes in to making the shops and stalls as great as they are. Those involved deserve some recognition and this is the perfect way to do it.

“It’s a great way to get members of the public and customers involved as well because the voting is all down to them.”

She added: “It’s good for the shops, the staff teams and the centre and it’s all down to the public voice.” The voting slips can be obtained from the reception help desk in the centre.
