A CHARITY’S fourth annual ball in memory of an inspirational cancer victim raised £2,000 to help others who are battling the disease.

The Denise Taylor Cancer Trust’s sparkling event was held at the Borough Hall, on the Headland, and was described by organisers as “absolutely brilliant”.

The charity was planning to make this year’s ball its last, but have now decided to organise the event for at least one more year.

Supporters of the charity had a ball at the glitzy fundraiser – and helped to raise the excellent total.

The money will all go towards supporting cancer sufferers with the financial burden that comes with battling the disease. The charity was set up by Denise when she was fighting cancer. Her dedicated family and friends have continued to build the charity since her death in 2009.

Her daughter, Helen Hart, 33, who lives on the Headland, said: “The ball was absolutely brilliant, by the time we had paid everything off we had raised £2,000 which is fantastic.”

The event was also attended by Christopher Akers-Belcher, leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, and Stephen Akers-Belcher who is supporting the charity during his year as Ceremonial Mayor.
