RESIDENTS are being reassured it will be business as usual at a walk-in health centre over the festive period.
The walk-in centre at One Life Hartlepool, in the town’s Park Road, will be open from 8am until 8pm throughout the Christmas and new year holiday period.
This time of year is traditionally one of the busiest times of year for all healthcare services.
But One Life’s walk-in centre is open as usual for patients who feel unwell or need advice or treatment for minor medical conditions such as sore throats, ear aches, bladder infections and abdominal pain.
Patients do not have to be registered with the centre and will be able to see a nurse or a doctor without an appointment.
The centre will be open as usual on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Dr John Howe, a GP and board member of Assura Hartlepool, which runs the walk-in centre, said: “We are open from eight in the morning until eight in the evening every day including Christmas Day to give people the best chance to get the healthcare they need.
“Patients are welcome to drop in if they need to see a doctor or nurse and they do not have to be registered to get NHS care.
“Our aim is to deliver high quality medical care that is both conveniently and easily accessible to people living, working or even just visiting Hartlepool.”
The £20m One Life centre includes a 24-hour minor injuries unit for sprains and cuts run by North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and an out-of-hours service run by Northern Doctors.
Northern Doctors urgent care is available weekdays Monday to Friday between 6.30pm-8am and 24 hours throughout Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, including Christmas Day.
