CHARITY chiefs have come up with a novel gift idea for anyone struggling with a Mother’s Day present tomorrow.
Cancer Research UK is urging women to sign up for the annual Race For Life, and says the run is an ideal opportunity for mums and daughters to join forces to help the fight against cancer.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an amazing women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year for life-saving research into 200 types of cancer – helping men, women and children across the North East of England survive.
Women and girls of all ages, shapes and sizes are needed to join forces for the event which will take place along Seaton Carew seafront on Sunday, June 24.
Claire Wase, event manager for Race for Life in Hartlepool, said: “We are issuing the rallying cry ‘it’s all of us versus cancer’ to mums and daughters and encouraging them to enter Race for Life, together, as soon as possible.
“Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show your mum how much you care by securing places to take part in your local event together. You will be able to cherish time spent fundraising, training and taking part.
“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. The really startling fact is that, in the same period of time, around two people in the North East of England* will be diagnosed with cancer.”
Last year, 1,426 women took part in the town event and raised £69,641. This summer more than 240 participants have already entered and organisers are hoping that 1,500 women will help hit a fundraising target of £71,000.
