TOWN residents will have the chance to get a free healthy heart check later this week.
Hartlepool Borough Council and the NHS are offering 15 appointments at the Belle Vue Centre, in Kendal Road, from 9.30am on Friday.
To be eligible for the test people must be aged 40-74 and have no existing cardio-vascular disease. They must not be on medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol and should not have undergone a check in the last five years.
Qualified nurses carry out the half-hour checks which involve measuring people’s cholesterol, height and weight, blood pressure, salt intake and alcohol consumption.
Irene Cross, the council’s neighbourhood development officer in the central area of the town who has helped organise the sessions, said: “The popularity of the checks really has exceeded all expectations. We would like to thank our colleagues in the NHS for their on-going support which has enabled us to offer these additional appointments.”
Anyone wishing to book an appointment at the latest session should call the Belle Vue Centre on (01429) 221832. Appointments are allocated on a first come-first served basis.
