Organisations in Hartlepool are joining forces ahead of two big fund-raising events set to take place in the town later this year.

Hartlepool & District Hospice are working in partnership with Miles for Men.

Having done the 5k run in the past, I know how much of a great day it is and it only stands to get bigger and better with the inclusion of Walk for Women this year.

The annual Miles for Men-sponsored run and the new for 2016 Walk for Women will both take place on Sunday, July 31, starting and finishing at The Sports Domes.

Both are 5k fun runs in aid of the Hospice and Miles for Men; there will also be live music from a selection of top acts on the day.

The hospice supports patients and families affected by incurable illnesses and offers a range of services including day hospice, day care, inpatient unit, complementary therapies as well as counselling and support service whilst Miles for Men supports cancer charities and sufferers in a variety of different ways.

Miles for Men have supported the hospice for several years now and have sponsored three rooms in the Alice House Care Unit.

Greg Hildreth, fund-raiser at the hospice, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the team at Miles for Men and it is great that our relationship has taken a leap forward.

“Having done the 5k run in the past, I know how much of a great day it is and it only stands to get bigger and better with the inclusion of Walk for Women this year.

“I would like to thank them very much for their support both now and over recent years. Everything that we receive from these events will be used to fund our patient care services.”

Micky Day, Miles for Men founder and event organiser, said: “We chose the hospice because of the valuable work they do for our community and as organisations.

“We are both very much focussed on helping people with severe illnesses and making their lives as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, as well as supporting their families through tough times.

“This is a great opportunity for us to work together and grow these events so that we can continue to help the people that need us.”
